Relationship w/ Body = Relationship w/ Life
The body’s experience isn’t the problem.
Even when it’s difficult.
In fact, it’s when we start to feel the body — really, purely feel it… things get better.
But often, our judgements or ideas about how the body should feel, prevent us from connecting with the actuality what’s happening in the body. This, I call reactivity. It’s when we react with some kind of fear response before we actually make it to the realms of pure body feel.
See, firstly, we have experiences…
Pain
Unwanted tension
Stress (the distressing kind)
Pleasure, too.
Secondarily, we can have reactions about these experiences…
Fear
Disconnection
Forcing or excessive, ineffective trying
Identifying with stories about what happened and what it means
It’s the reactions, more than the experiences themselves, which cause loops of poor health or dysfunction
A lot of people go into figuring out their reactions… and it only gets more complicated.
We need to just acknowledge the reaction and get straight back to feeling the body.
Feeling is not doing anything special. Feeling is not assuming what we’ll feel.
Feeling is just feeling. A rare thing, despite how often it’s talked about.
When we’re feeling, there’s pure sensation without story.
Pure sensation without judgement.
In my experience of truly, purely feeling… I’ve seen that pure feeling causes an immediate transformation of the feeling content (pain, for example). When I go into the sensation without any agenda, it simply cannot stay the same. It might not change fully, but it will definitely change for the better.
What’s the take home message?
All sensations and all reactions are doorways to a deeper relationship with the body.
None are problems. All can be invitations.
And when we can truly feel ourselves, through the body, we begin to meet life.
Where “should” ends, the wisdom of what is, begins.
Only by working with what is, can we implement a strategy that’s worthwhile.
Only by working with what is, are we operating from a grounded, centred, clear place.
I made this 27min video to show you that internal release (AKA the feeling of serene freedom) can exist even within states of tension. It’s important to know this, because if we want to heal from pain and dig our way our of fragility, we need to be friends with various physical sensations… or at least, non-reactive towards them.
It’s reactivity that causes suffering, not the physical state.
